Project Overview

We designed the personalized courses design journey for an online learning platform. This journey let the users build a personalized courses based on their needs and their personal growth target. And user’s peers can provide feedback on their learning progress.

Challenges

Our main challenge was to design a user-friendly journey that allowed users to create a learning path and track their ongoing progress. It’s important to show the users what they’ve completed and what’s the upcoming learning for them.

Design Goal

1. Improve the learning path create process

It’s important to create a easy and flexible journey for the users to build their own learning path. Users should be able to get an ideal learning path either it’s recommended by the system or it’s built by the users.

2. Display the ongoing learning path progress clearly

Another goal of this project is to have a better user interface for users to keep track on their learning progress. Letting the users know what they’ve completed and what’s upcoming for them at a glance.

Solutions

To address these challenges, we created a new user flow for the learning paths create journey and make use of the new user flow to redesign the user interface. Also, we created some new components like the rotating categories to maintain both interactivity and user experience of the app.

Process

We conducted client interviews to gather requirements and understand how users create a learning path and their painpoints.

We mapped out ideal user flows for users creating the ideal learning flow.

We designed a low-fidelity mockup, subjecting it to evaluation by stakeholders to ensure acceptance and usability.

Our team created high-fidelity mockups and development assets, crucial for the development team's efforts.

The Design

1. Curated Quiz

Curated Quiz is an important feature of this journey. If users haven’t decided or had no idea what courses are suitable for them, they can use this quiz to get a recommended learning path. Users just need to answer a few simple multiple-choices questions, then the system will analysis and deliver a recommended learning path.

2. My Journey

Users can view their learning plan, assigned learning paths and completed learning paths in the My Journey. Using tab menu to consolidate these 3 parts together and there is a number indicator on each tab.

Users can understand their progress at a glance.Under each tab, we are using an accordion design for different courses to keep the page won’t be too long. Also, there’s icon on each accordion card to show whether the course is completed or not. And the actions of each course is inside the card to avoid users mix up actions of different courses.
